After last week’s episode, we have the same number of queens as before. Which is cute, but we know someone has to go home already. Let’s not forget the “gold bar twist”, which means we will get another save this season, therefore the season 14 gets (no pun intended) dragged on and on.
Mini challenge!
Episode 8 starts with the reading challenge! I have to say, it was underwhelming for me. Angeria, Lady Camden and Bosco served the best reads. Ultimately, Bosco won the mini challenge. However, these queens could use some lessons from the shady school of drag. Bosco was good, but her jokes were more suited for a roast, not a quick reading challenge. Lady Camden was superior for me, but her shade still lacked some spice. Idk, maybe I’m just desensitized. I did watch a lot of Drag Race in the past honey, let’s just say that.
Main challenge!
For this week’s main challenge, the queens were split into 3 teams and performed in 60s inspired girl groups. Team “The Ru-Nettes” (named after The Ronettes) consists of DeJa Skye, Jasmine Kennedie and Jorgeous. “The Ru-Premes” (named after The Supremes) consists of Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Kerri Colby and Lady Camden. Team “The Shang-Ru-Las” (named after The Shangri-Las) consists of Bosco, Daya Betty and Willow Pill.
Daya Betty was soooo crazy! She really wanted to win this week and she didn’t budge. That’s cool, because ultimately it played in her favor. I really didn’t get team vibes from her, however it’s that point in the competition, when queens need to be a little more hungry for the crown.
The queens recorded their songs and rehearsed the choreography for the performance. These queens can’t sing, at all. Which is fine, it’s just that my ears were bleeding the whole time. The only ray of light in the vocal department were Angeria and Deja Skye. However I can hardly describe their vocals as being “amazing”.
Kerri was totally lost in the performance. She did fade into the background. It also didn’t help that the queens had to wear preselected outfits and wigs for the performance. The lack of earrings in the Deja group really turned me off for some reason. The judges were also harsh towards Lady Camden, however I didn’t agree. She wasn’t spectacular by any means, but definitely not bottom three worthy. Jasmine Kennedie was blah, her performance was just lacking in several departments and it just looked a little bit goofy to me.
Bring it to the runway!
Guest judge this week was Alec Mapa. On the runway, category was Heart On.
Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Daya Betty and DeJa Skye received positive critiques, with Daya Betty winning the challenge. Jasmine Kennedie, Kerri Colby and Lady Camden received negative critiques, with Lady Camden being in the bottom three, but safe.
Oh, gurl. I didn’t agree with Daya Batty winning the challenge, however I can see why they picked her. Daya’s storyline is compelling for the show, as she was eliminated and came back for vengeance. It’s just that her performance didn’t stand out to me, I really forgot about her by the end.
Ultimately, Jasmine Kennedie and Kerri Colby lip-synced to “Un-Break My Heart” (Hex Hector Remix) by Toni Braxton. Jasmine Kennedie wins the lip-sync. Kerri Colby then opens her chocolate bar to reveal a plain chocolate bar and sashays away.
I don’t really know how Jasmine stayed over Kerri, but oh well. Kerri did have a weak run on RuPaul’s Drag Race, however she’s (lip quiver) beeeaauutiful. The fandom seems to be ambivalent at this point. Kerri Colby was a gorgeous queen and a trans girl who inspired so many people.
