What is going on here on this day? The drama is just overflowing the Drag Race fandom! The famous drag queen Shannel who competed on Season 1 and All Stars 1 of RuPaul’s Drag Race was recently accused of stealing 700$ from audience members’ purse. The internet went wild after a woman named Meggy who was at the venue posted the accusatory video. In the video, Meggy explained how Shannel went into her purse during the performance and stole wad of cash. She posted this video:
But the drama was only starting. Meggy said that Shannel denied stealing anything more than “a dollar”, called her a “Karen” and asked her to leave the establishment. Meggy then complained to management, who she claimed were condescending, saying they were uncertain about returning her money. She said she also called the police to file a report against Shannel.
In Bob’s words “This is WILD!” Meggy didn’t stay quiet after that whole incident. She even called Shannel a “bitch” for bashing her and taking her money.
Shannel claps back!
Following a media frenzy, Shannel took to Instagram to issue a statement of her own after originally remaining silent about the matter. Shannel said she didn’t take 700$, however she has apologized and said the stunt was in poor taste. The final resolution offered to Meggy included: personal apology from Shannel, full tickets refund in the amount of 1200$ and additional 700$. Here is Shannel’s clapback video:
However, Meggy refused the generous offer. In a follow up video she stated that “it’s not about the money.” However Shannel received an email from Meggy’s lawyer demanding 6241$. A spokesperson for Voss Events, the event-planning company behind the “Drag Brunch” show, said that only 2$ was removed from Meggy’s purse and that it was later returned to her.
Derrick Barry gets involved!
Not long after the drama was out, Derrick Barry posted a tweet, obviously referring to Shannel: “The only thing I steal… is the show. #DragRaceVegas”
I secretly kind of live for Derrick inserting himself into every possible situation while still remaining incredibly funny.
