All Stars 7 is well on it’s way to becoming the best All Stars season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. We all love the current competing queens, however one might wonder why Trixie Mattel declined the offer to join. Trixie is known to be very popular among Drag Race fans. She has made a well known brand and has currently a lot of projects coming up. Naturally, the fans wanted to see her on the current “All Winners” season. However, Trixie has been very vocal in the past about competing again.
The expectations are high
In 2018, Trixie said on Unhhh that All Stars is very hard. You have to be amazing, very prepared and you unfortunately have a lot to lose. People expect a lot from returning queens, but winners are a whole different story. Why are people enjoying All Stars 7 so much? Well, the queens are basically perfect. Episode after episode, we get an amazing display of pure drag talent. And the format has changed. No more lipsticks! That’s definitely a welcome change.
Trixie has had some amazing success, so there is a lot on the line for her. I said that even when she returned for All Stars 3. Back then she already had an amazing show with Katya and an outstanding online presence. But now? She has made an empire out of her brand – crazy successful Trixie Cosmetics, sold out tours around the world, amazing YouTube channel and now a new reality series “Trixie Motel”.
Despite her past success on All Stars 3, Trixie Mattel recently revealed she isn’t interested in returning to compete in an “All Winners” season like the one currently airing on Paramount+.
Trixie said: “They did ask me to come back for ‘All Stars.’ They said, ‘Hey, we’re doing “All Winners.” We know you don’t want to do it, but we wanted you to know that we always think [of you] if you wanted to do the opportunity,’ and I said, ‘No, thank you.'”
The fear of failing
Trixie is booked and blessed. She has a lot of projects, so naturally she couldn’t do All Stars 7. But I’m sensing Trixie might be fearful of appearing on the show again. No shocker there, many queens are afraid of doing the crazy challenges. Many contestants are concerned with “the edit” the show gives them for the sake of storyline. On many occasions, Trixie said how competing on the show has been traumatizing for her.
Remember her Snatch Game on All Stars 3? That was a flop we remember to this day. So just imagine if something like that happened again.
However, “All Winners” is a totally different game. The fans really like this spinoff. There are no eliminations, just accumulating stars for the finale. Now, I’m not sure if the production is gonna stick with this format in the future, but I don’t see any negative impact for Trixie. Or any other winner for that matter. Just a lot more exposure (hey Magnolia) and future bookings.
Judging instead of competing
Trixie is not opposed to appearing on Drag Race in a judging capacity and would love to blend the franchise with her own show, “Trixie Motel.”
While I wish to see Trixie competing on a future “All Winners” season, I fully understand why she wouldn’t want to do it. The stakes are really high. The fans are a lot to deal with and she has other projects. But still, we have seen how All Stars 7 works. It’s just really a chance for winners to showcase themselves again. So, maybe Trixie will reconsider future offers? Let’s hope.
