I hate to admit it, but it’s definitely true. Not necessarily because of the winner, but because we as viewers weren’t satisfied. Everybody was excited at the beginning! We saw Jimbo and Pangina slay the first two episodes and everyone thought they would go all the way.
Then suddenly the weird, strategic eliminations started to happen. It was Manila all over again. For me, that was horrible. It’s not in my fantasy, that a strong queen could go home at any moment. I was left with nobody to root for in the middle of the season. Why? Well, I understand the queens. Every one of them wanted to get to the top. However, it’s not satisfying to see the background “safe” queens dominate the competition. The storyline was completely off. Nothing felt satisfying at the end.
When Blu Hydrangea won, I was like “sure, why not”. I don’t remember her particularly, but ok.
This season had a lot of potential
Omg. So many internationally acclaimed drag queens. The trailer for the season was awesome, so was the meet the queens segment. But I knew there was something up. It was too good to be true.
The lipstick eliminations went too far. It was all a game for the queens. And again, I understand that. However we as viewers are left empty and unfulfilled. They don’t see our perspective. The contestants just want to win. Although, let’s be honest. The prize was shit. I don’t care if it’s BBC and they don’t finance game shows. The fact there is no prize is just ridiculous.
A single with RuPaul? Really? Even that was horrible. Have you heard it? It’s just a weird medley of RuPaul’s old songs, with Blu saying a word or two here and there.
How did All Stars 2 get away with this format?
I remember when it all started. All Stars two was a season when the lipstick eliminations first started. However, back then that was innovative. Something exciting and new. The queens were also playing the game a little differently back then. It seemed as everybody wanted to play fair. Even Detox regretted eliminating Alyssa, because she felt her friend Roxxxy should have stayed. Those were just different times.
Now, let’s just eliminate the strong ones. Why not? The format allows it. So the mediocre queens can win… Is that it? Is that satisfying to watch? Not at all. And the IDMB ratings for UK vs The World prove it.
What now?
This format needs to change. It’s too much. The queens have all the power, but it’s not necessarily justified. They need to change it. Maybe do something with lip sync assassins. Or heck, let’s bring back the lip sync for your life. That would be fun.
I would also love for queens to have real cash prize. And a 250.000 dollars would be a good start. RuPeter badges just won’t cut it. Also the music single was a disaster… That’s not a prize, that’s torture. If BBC is a problem, than make it US vs The World. How about that?!
