And it’s here! The second premiere episode where we meet 7 other queens competing for the crown this year!
Entrance Looks
No entrance look particularly stood out to me this episode. I liked Lady Camden’s look, it was colorful and fun. Also Angeria’s look was really cute. I didn’t care for Maddy’s look, didn’t like the fire motif of the dress not the hamburger purse. Deja was meh. Jorgeous and Jasmine were ok. Daya Betty’s look was good, I did like the color combination, but I don’t like the hair or the makeup – it did remind me of Crystal Methyd.
Mini challenge
The mini challenge this episode was a photoshoot yet again. This time the queens had to pose in a bowl full of tic tac candy. I did enjoy this mini challenge, it was fun and entertaining. Angeria and Lady Camden cracked me up. The winner of this week’s mini challenge was Angeria! She won 2500 doolaaahs honey!
Main challenge
We get another talent show main challenge and I live for it! Three queens did dance numbers – Jorgeous, Lady Camden and Jasmine Kennedy. I couldn’t stop watching Jasmine, she was so good! Her splits and death drops reminded me of Laganja Estranja and somehow even the makeup is similar. Angeria did an original song and she was on fire! It really shows she’s an amazing entertainer. Even her autotuned song was cute.
However, I didn’t like Daya Betty’s lip sync to Pink’s “Get This Party Started.” The performance was boring and it didn’t showcase her talents or personality. RuPaul critiqued her for not knowing who she was based on the performance. Another weird one for me was Deja Skye – she did a tutorial on how to do cheerleading. It was supposed to be funny, but it didn’t go anywhere. Maddy’s talent show was also a snooze fest. I did like her playing the electric guitar and that’s a great talent, however she didn’t make it entertaining enough – it’s a drag competition, you need to go big!
The Runway looks
The theme was signature showstopping drag. I liked most of the outfits, the queens really came prepared this season. Lady Camden’s look was stunning – she looked like a glamorous peacock and I lived for the reveal. Angeria served us pure glamour and perfection – she was absolutely stunning. However, there were some misses. I didn’t like Daya Betty’s ribbon dress and when she turned around you could see the dress had ripped. I also don’t get why she does her makeup like Crystal Methyd – I know they belong to the same family, but girl please serve something else. Maddy’s was another interesting look – I’m quite torn to be honest. Her look is good and we haven’t seen that before on the main stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race, however overall I don’t like her esthetic and I’m not sure what she’s serving the audience. I also don’t care for her makeup.
The lip sync for your life
Angeria is our challenge winner this episode and I agree, she was absolutely amazing this episode. She also got 5000 doolaaahsss. Daya Betty and Deja Skye were in the bottom and had to lip sync. This weeks guest judge was none other than Alicia Keys and the bottom queens had to lip sync to her song “Fallin’.” Deja Skye ended up winning the lip sync, however I didn’t get the impression she was overpowering Daya. The lip sync was meh for me and Daya Betty had to sashey away.
Overall I liked this episode, but episode one was that bitch. I didn’t particularly enjoy Maddy’s storyline of being straight, because we’ve known that for at least a month now, so I didn’t care for it – I wasn’t shocked or surprised of course. I do think drag is for everyone and Maddy’s drag is valid, however I’m not yet impressed by her. I’m interested to see what she serves us next week. At this point I can say, I live for Angeria, Kornbread and Kerri Colby!
