Gia Gunn just can’t stay out of drama. Is she really that insensitive or is she just desperate for attention? She wrote on twitter, “So happy to see a trans person on an actual season of drag race. The doors that I’ve opened…” Here’s a screenshot of the tweet:
Several Drag Race queens replied, including Gottmik, writing “I love my fake season.” Peppermint just wrote, “u, okay girl hahaha.” Kylie Sonique replied with a funny GIF.
You might be thinking, it’s just Gia’s shenanigans again, however fans are not amused. There’s a whole discussion on the erasure of past trans contestants on the show, including Peppermint, Monica Beverly Hillz, Jiggly, Kylie Sonique. Gia does not handle social media very well and she proved that time and time again. Unfortunately, she probably meant, she was the first open trans contestant entering the show, as several others came out during or after the show. Well, in any case, I don’t think she opened any doors, because she was very unlikable during Season 6. She was even worse on Allstars 4. Let’s not forget, she wasn’t even identifying as trans during Season 6.
I’m not really sure what Gia wants to accomplish with this irrational tweeting, but I guess she really needs the negative attention. Who cares who was first? As far as I know, Peppermint was the first open trans contestant before entering the show. But is that really so important? RuPaul’s Drag Race is now more inclusive than ever, but it’s certainly not because of Gia Gunn.
